Web sites useful for teaching the measurement substrand of length
- YouTube video on the history of how a metre is defined. Although somewhat advanced, my high Year 1 group enjoyed this - especially when we made pendulums. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvVCNhWJvvo
- A related YouTube video that came up which the class also enjoyed on the history of length measurement. This is a "NASAConnect" segment on the history of measurement, mentioning time, weight and length. It also talks about using parts of the body to measure things before rulers. Running time 5:05. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQPQ_q59xyw
- String is great for measuring curved objects! You might like to play the Goodies "Everybody Loves String" song on YouTube. Run time 2:28 but the last 30 seconds is not about string.
